It has happened to me and I am sure it has happened to you too sometimes.
Waking up and getting ready for work, or for that important occasion, and all is set and done save for your hair.
Considering the amount of space hair takes on your head, it’s not something to be pushed aside but rather something that will make or break your look.
Different hairstyles and looks will portray a different feel of the same person. And each hairstyle is promoted by the use of a specific hair product to make it seem full, coloured and continuous.
So are you confused about which hair product to use and when?
For a hair product to be successful, it should be Smooth, versatile and workable. It should not be something that will take a giant’s share of your time but rather something you can do while brushing your teeth.
So if you are still not sure of what makes your hair look dope, worry not, we will cover all that in this article.
Each hair routine has 3 phases; pre-styling, styling and finishing. For a man, all these should take a maximum of 3 minutes.
Considerations
- Do you want a strong hold that will maintain your hairstyle all day?
- Do you want a flexible hold that allows for the hair to move more naturally?
- Which level of hair shine do you want? Matte? Natural? High?
- What amount of fullness and lift do you want in your hairstyle?
Pre-Styling
Pre-styling aims to add volume or control to clean air to optimize the results you will get using hair products.
First step: shampoo your hair to rid it of stubborn products or dirt. After using shampoo, use a conditioner to replenish the washed-out hair’s natural oils.
Styling
Now that your hair is well-cleaned and pre-styled, it is either dry or near dry.
It is time to get your styling products on the table to shape your style for the day. Let me sound a warning early enough if you have no idea of what you are about to do, pick up that phone or walk to your barber and have a conversation about the hairstyle you are craving.
The professional in them will now advise on what products to use. He/she will also get realistic about what can be achieved with your hair type.
There is a myriad of styling products out there that are either specific to your hair type – and thus the advice of visiting a professional or a generic – a one-size-fits-all product.
You also want to be wary of your scalp or skin when using these products. Some are harsh on your skin and either can’t be used alone or will need another product applied immediately after use to prevent hurting your skin.
Finishing
The hard part is done, now this final part is just as important as the other two.
Skipping either of these steps will result in having crunchy hair all day, something that you don’t want. Always go easy on finishing products.
